This has been one of those really wierd weekends in which I didn't have a gig either solo, or with my band "The Wharf Rats."  I found myself last night (Saturday night) not knowing what to do with myself about 9:30.  Nothing would satisfy, so I thought I'd do something I haven't done in 2 years and that is, watch TV.  It was so heart warming to see juxtaposed to the horrible shooting at the theater in Colorado, that the world can look past that for a brief evening and watch the OLYPICS!!

As a kid, my Mom had me at the YMCA (no W) everyday in SC.  I was on the swim team and I was heavily into gymnastics.  Then when my family moved from South Carolina to North Carolina, I was given the opportunity to dance at the Walter Fletcher Academy of dance.  Between dreams of being a veterinarian, I had aspirations of being a ballarina.  Alas,  I became more of a dancer and over time, even that got squashed for my love of all things music.  But on this weekend, since the kick off celebration in London, this world has stood together in the faith that we all are REALLY one.  What happens to one effects the other one.  So I'll do my best to be a little nicer in traffic this week.

My best to you - Njo

Bio

Guitarist, pianist and singer-songwriter Nancy Jones starts her day like most everyone else—with a plan. But that's just the beginning. Where the plan leads her is where the songs occur, and that's where the real story is.

Jones says, "The songs are born from experience and longing. They are a musical and lyrical treatment to what occurs in everyday life. My life, your life. My shoes don't necessarily fit everybody, but I bet I've got a song that does."

Based on the coast in northern California, Nancy is a native of Western North Carolina. And while her Southern Appalachian roots color her songs, they don't define them. A self-proclaimed rambler, she itches to find the next inspiration wherever it may be. Whether that's on the road, in an airport, a greasy spoon in the middle of nowhere, or in the eye of a stranger. "Everything and everyone has a story," she says. "I've just got to dig it out and show it some light."

A few years ago, Nancy decided to drop her back-up band and go solo. It was a hard but necessary decision. Since then, she's had much success carrying off her music in its original form—alone. It's fresh and raw, boiled down and truthful.

With a broad brush of influences, Jones' music is awash with overtones and undertones of blues, folk, front-porch traditionals, gospel and southern rock. But don't be mistaken. Her music is categorically none of these things. It is more the bastard child of them all.
